Sessions

Healing sessions

An unhurried hour, sometimes two, held for you alone — with the tools that fit the day you are having.

People come for many reasons: pain that will not settle, grief that has nowhere to go, sleeplessness, anxiety, a habit that has outlived its usefulness, a diagnosis they are learning to live with, or simply the feeling that something in them is asking to be met.

I do not work from one method. I work from the person in front of me. Some sessions are quiet and almost entirely silent. Some are full of conversation. Some are full of sound. What follows are the threads I weave from.

Practicalities

  • A session — 60 to 90 minutes
  • In person or at a distance by voice or video
  • A first conversation — without charge
  • Fees and availability — please ask
  • Confidential — always

Hypnosis and hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is not sleep and it is not losing control. It is a state of focused, relaxed attention — the state you are already in when you are absorbed in music, or driving a familiar road, or lost in a memory. In that state the mind becomes more open to suggestion, and the body becomes more willing to let go.

In a session you remain aware and in charge throughout. I guide; you decide. We may work with:

  • stress, anxiety and the body's alarm that will not switch off
  • sleep, rest and the return of deep relaxation
  • pain, and the fear that gathers around it
  • habits and patterns that no longer serve you
  • grief, loss and the tenderness that follows
  • confidence, self-worth, performance and the voice
  • preparation for surgery, treatment, childbirth or a difficult conversation

Hypnotherapy works best as a series rather than a single appointment, and it works beautifully alongside spiritual healing — the one opens the door, the other walks through it with you.

Spiritual and energy healing

This is the oldest work I do. It is quiet, often wordless, and held in prayer — hands on or hands off, in the room or at a distance, which makes no difference to whether it can be felt.

I do not ask you to believe anything in particular. I ask only that you are willing to be still for a while and let yourself be cared for. Many people report warmth, weight, release, tears, or a deep and unfamiliar calm. Some report nothing at all in the moment and notice the change in the days that follow.

I honour the light in all its names and forms. If you have a faith of your own, we work within it. If you have none, we work without a name for what is happening. Either way, the intention is the same: that you are held in love while your own healing does its work.

Taoist practice — the Healing Tao lineage of Mantak Chia

The Taoist practices I have received, and now pass on, are practical and unromantic: they are exercises for the body and the attention. Practised steadily, they restore the flow of energy that stress, illness and grief interrupt.

In sessions and in workshops we may work with:

  • The Inner Smile — directing warmth and gratitude to your own organs and to the parts of yourself you have learned to dislike
  • The Six Healing Sounds — sound and breath that release what the body has been holding
  • The Microcosmic Orbit — circulating energy through the body's central channel to steady and restore
  • Chi Nei Tsang — gentle abdominal work that unwinds the tension held in the belly
  • Standing and moving practice — rooting, breathing and grounding in the body

These are practices you can learn and keep for life. That is their real gift: not something done to you, but something you can do for yourself, at home, in your own time. Teaching them is part of my work — see training.

Embodied prayer

Prayer is usually taught as something you say. Embodied prayer is something you are: it moves, it breathes, it sounds, it kneels, it rests. It is prayer with the whole body, and it does not require a religion to work.

In an embodied prayer session we may begin with breath, then let a sound or a word or a gesture find you. We may hold what you carry up to the light — a person you love, something you have lost, something you are asking for, or something you are finally ready to put down.

It can be done alone, one-to-one with me, or in a circle where others are praying alongside you. Circles meet from time to time; write to me if you would like to be told when the next one is.

Voice and sound

My training in the performing and fine arts lives in this part of the work. The voice is an instrument of healing in its own right: it carries tone, breath and feeling out of the body and into the room, where they can finally be heard.

We might tone, hum, chant, sing or simply sigh — there is no performance here and nothing has to sound beautiful. What matters is that something that has been silent gets a voice, and is met with love rather than judgement.

Held alongside medicine

For years I have worked in healing across most all the modalities of medicine, and I have great respect for what each of them does well: the diagnosis, the surgery, the drug, the therapy, the rehabilitation. This work does not compete with any of it. It holds the person that all of it is happening to.

If you are in treatment, we work around it. Energy work and hypnosis are gentle and adaptable; they can support you before an operation, through a difficult course of treatment, and in the recovery afterwards. If something needs a doctor, I will say so — and if you want me to speak with your practitioner, with your permission, I am glad to.

Healing supports the whole person and works alongside medical care; it does not replace it.

Who this is for

  • Anyone living with pain, illness or a diagnosis they are learning to carry
  • Anyone in grief, or in the middle of a change they did not choose
  • Anyone exhausted by anxiety, sleeplessness or a nervous system that will not rest
  • Healers, therapists, nurses and doctors who give out all day and need to receive
  • Artists, singers and performers who work through the body and the voice
  • Anyone who feels the pull of the spiritual and does not know where to begin

A first session

We begin by talking: what brings you here, what you hope for, what you would rather avoid. Then we work in whatever way fits — table, chair, floor, movement or stillness. You stay clothed throughout, and you are free to stop, ask questions, or simply be quiet at any point. Afterwards we take a little time to let it settle.
